Shantae: Half-Genie Hero delayed by ~6 weeks

First things first – we are going to have to adjust our Target Release Date, moving it back from our 9/27 Target Release date by about 6 weeks, give or take. We know this will disappoint some of you, but we feel that it’s necessary to take that extra time for bug fixing and adding additional polish. We know you want the final product to be excellent and so do we! Thanks for your patience and support as we approach the finish line!

Disappointing, but it’s better than releasing an unfinished product like another 2D Kickstarter platformer. They’re also cancelling the PS3/360 versions to focus on the other ports

Rumor: 3DS to continue receiving support until 2018

3ds-it-prints-money

The 3DS has managed to find its relative success in the post iPhone market and it seems Nintendo has some plans to keep at it at least for an additional year. This comes from Emily Rogers and her latest post recapping what she’s heard. She claims 3DS will continue receiving games for an additional year.

I’m thinking perhaps the next Pokemon game could be cross gen? She did claim GameFreak was working on an NX game and the lack of BC means no 3DS games will be playable on it so it seems to make some sense to me.

Emily Rogers: NX likely region free, will support UE4; Recap of NX hardware details

Emily Rogers which has industry contacts and has been right several times in the past has been corroborating information she’s come across with other people and their sources. She made a new post detailing a recap of what she’s heard. Some important details include:

  • Unreal Engine 4 and Unity support – two of the most popular engines in the market. Unity is very necessary for indie titles even if it was a given that it’ll happen as even the New 3DS got it. Unreal Engine 4 was the more questionable of the two as Epic didn’t even consider Wii U as being viable for the engine which would point at its increased power over it’s console predecessor. UE4 is also very important for Japanese support in the future with games like DQXI and KH3 running on that engine. We already know DQXI is coming to NX and depending on how that port works out KH3 might as well.
  • Also detailed in the report was information detailed in previous reports by her and others including the 6.2 inch multi touch display and the detachable controllers with force feedback.
  • Emily is also fairly confident that the NX will be region free as well. Iwata had mentioned that Nintendo was looking into it and it was a major complaint against their hardware which might help them win the favor of some consumers back.
  • 32GB of internal storage is included in the device with more likely being added via SD cards.

On top of that Emily compared her notes with the LPVG writer on the detachable controllers and they were exactly right except for the analog stick placement likely meaning that either one might be in the final product or you can choose how to place it.

Emily Rogers and LPVG: NX to have a PS4 like D-pad and a “social” button

NX mock up DS4

Let’s Play Videogames broke the news that NX will feature detachable controllers with motion controls and force feedback similar to HTC’s Vive controllers. Today they report that NX will have a PS4 like D-pad as it would allow for it to be used as a controller more so than a normal single piece D-pad. Additionally, a PS4 share/social button is apparently due to be included in the NX controller which will allow for easy sharing of pictures and video. 3DS has this feature built into the OS after an update, but it’s nice to see they improving it.

Emily Rogers and Nintendo Life have also backed up these claims. Nintendo Life added that it’ll be on the opposite side of the home button (my render above is a bit inaccurate there). Emily Rogers added an unrelated tid-bit that NX currently has 32GB of internal storage, but it’s just the dev kits for now.

Nintendo 3DS Nintendo Direct announced for September 1st

Nintendo of Europe has announced a Nintendo Direct focusing on the 3DS which will air very soon. I’d imagine it’ll focus on Pokemon, Federation Force, and Ever Oasis. If we’re lucky they’ll announce a NX reveal date at the end though they said NO NX or Mobile updates which might mean they could show off Paper Mario.

Update: Nintendo of America confirms this too:
